Dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century

www plus keyboardI’ve been trying to avoid blogging for some time.  It’s not that I don’t like new technology - working in IT means that I automatically qualify as a bit of a geek and thus love all the new shiny tools I can get my hands on.

The fact is that I regularly rail against the fashion industry that all things web-related have become.  Today it’s AJAX (which I actually think is pretty cool), tomorrow it’ll be something else.  Blogs came along and everybody had to have one.  Hmmm….I thought, another fad.

But the truth is, a couple of years later (eons in web years) and blogs are still here.  And worst of all, the bloody clients are asking me to set them up for them now.  I’m a firm believer that I should understand everything my clients ask me to do, even if ultimately the work gets sub-contracted out.  It’s not a control-freak thing - I feel I owe it to the clients to give them the best customer service I can.  That way I get plenty of work and they tell their friends.  That, my friends, is how to do marketing on the cheap - ha ha!

So, IAS Solutions now has a blog.  I’ll try to keep it regularly updated, but sometimes work gets in the way and clients always come first.  What’ll be here?  Well, at first I thought I could turn this into a bit of a marketing exercise, but that would be too twee - and it’s been done before.  As most of my clients will testify, I have a (sometimes warped) sense of humour, so I couldn’t resist setting my goal to be:

“Lift the lid on the good, the bad and the ugly of the IT industry and running a small business”

…but then I thought “what the hell, let’s also include anything else I’m bound to ramble on about”.
