Capital Currencies Web-based Trading System

We built Capital Currencies original trading system a few years ago.  Originally, as a one-man business and for expediency, it was built using MS Access.  However, since then the business has expanded and issues regarding the ability to trade whilst out of the office as well as scalability have arisen.

Craig Strong (the MD) and I have been discussing various options and I’m pleased to say that we’re going to develop a web-based system for him.  I’m already getting excited about this as there are possibilities I can forsee that will enable IAS Solutions to deliver features we just couldn’t do with a locally-based system.

For instance, I’ve wanted to provide a more intuitive user interface for some time, like a central control from which all functions can take place.  This can also act as a ‘to do’ list, to ensure no steps in the process are overlooked.  A user should be able to see at a glance everything they have remaining to do before finishing their days work and a ‘trade blotter’ as we’ll call it can do this.

As another example, when we originally set out, Craig assumed that he would always trade versus sterling.  This assumption actually has far-reaching consequences in subsequent assumptions.  The new version will eliminate this issue.

Database control on a single MS Access system can cause problems.  As the business scales up, we would have had to move to some for of database server and this move will allow us to do this now, by harnessing the power of MySQL.

Most important of all and looking to future expandability, we would have a potential for white-labelling the system, should franchise opportunities arise for Capital Currencies.

Delivery is expected to be in the late summer.  In the interim, various protoypes will have to be tested and new functionality trialled, so that go-live is uneventfull.  The nature of the business is such that down-time can cost clients and money, so a period of paralell running is inevitable.  If IAS Solutions can make this as painless as possible, so much the better.
